Coming Together to Heal Together – Allowing our Vulnerability to Show the Way

Highlights from this session:

Laura Calderón de la Barca explores the path forward in solidarity and care, addressing the deep wounds of colonialism, racism, and slavery. She talks about the personal and societal impacts of trauma, shame, and violence, emphasizing the need for a culture of radical care and emotional maturity. Laura shares her intimate passion, as a woman of mixed descent, for building bridges between the polarizing parts of our stories, and finding one's place in the world. She expands on her journey from overcoming traumatic experiences and toxic shame to becoming a psychotherapist dedicated to collective healing, illuminating the importance of creating safe spaces for healing, particularly in intercultural contexts scarred by colonialism. She underscores the necessity of nurturing feminine energy, reconnecting with the earth, and fostering creativity as vital components of the global healing movement.

Xiye Bastida

Xiye Bastida, a 22-year-old climate justice activist and organizer from the Otomi-Toltec Indigenous community in Mexico, is a powerful advocate for an inclusive, intersectional climate movement.

After moving to New York in 2015 when her parents got a job at the Center for Earth Ethics,  Xiye began deepening her involvement with the existing climate movement. She became a lead organizer for Fridays For Future NYC, helping to mobilize 300,000 people in the streets for climate action. She also co-founded the Re-Earth Initiative, an international youth-led organization supporting frontline communities in 27 countries. Xiye upholds Indigenous wisdom as being a key solution to the climate crisis and has brought this perspective to global platforms, including the UN. Her work has earned her the Spirit of the UN Award and a place on the TIME100 Next list.
